RRD campaigns in sec 22, 47

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, AUG 23: As a part of their ongoing election campaign, supporters of the Rashtriya Raksha Dal (RRD), today went around Sector 22 and 47.

Interacting with the public in the Sector 22 shopping centre as well as the residential areas, party candidate, Col Harsharan Singh (retd.) pointed out that while the talk of stability, continuity and welfare is acceptable, these concepts are redundant without security, and this is where major political parties are culpable.

He said that while the Congress had been consistently weakening the armed forces by reducing the defence budget, thereby starving the services of requisite equipment, the BJP, on the other hand has traumatised the senior defence hierarchy with the Bhagwat episode.

He remarked that in view of the above, the Kargil crisis was bound to happen. And it was the jawan and the leadership at the unit-level, even though ill-equipped, who secured the nation's position.

In Sector 47, a large number of civilians and ex-servicemen attended the RRD election rally, which was addressed by the party candidate as well as several ex-servicemen including Air Marshal J.S. Punia, Lt Gen Gill, Lt Gen B.S. Randhawa and Brig Harwant Singh. A statement issued later said that the Rashtriya Jagrit Nawjawan Party has also assured support to the RRD.
