FY Arts classes yet to begin at MSU

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Aug 23: The First Year classes in the Faculty of Arts of MS University is yet to get underway although the admission process was done with in July. Both teachers and students are clueless when the classes will begin.

Delay in submission of fees by students and the ban on recruiting temporary lecturers are among the reasons for the delay. Temporary lectures can be appointed only after the parliamentary elections, making it practically impossible for the process of appointment to begin before September 5, when the state goes to the polls.

Faculty Dean Dr Maya Shah says the classes are expected to start soon. Only 750 students have paid the fees though the faculty has accepted 1,300 forms, she says.

``The shortage is not for those teaching primary subjects, but it is with those taking compulsory subjects and these temporary lecturers are required for the First Year,'' Shah said. Senior professors of the faculty however deny the possibility of any delay of academic schedule due to the delay in the beginning of classes. Dean of students of the faculty A. Mehta said tenure of the classes have been raised to one hour from 45 minutes and as First Year classes go on till March, ``it should not be a problem to complete the classes for the First Year,'' Mehta said.
