Cong fields Mohan Joshi from Pune

ENS & AGENCIES
NEW DELHI/PUNE, AUG 23: The Congress party on Sunday night announced the names of party candidates for Pune, Satara and Nashik parliamentary constituencies in Maharashtra.

Mohan Joshi will contest from Pune while Gopal Rao Gulve and Yashwant Rao Appasaheb Nimbalkar (Khardekar) will contest from Nashik and Satara respectively, an AICC press release said here. The list of the party's candidates from six State Assembly constituencies in the city was, however, not released.

Joshi is president of the Pune unit of the Congress and a staunch supporter of Suresh Kalmadi.

Among the other major aspirants for the Congress candidature from the Pune Lok Sabha constituency were former AICC spokesman V N Gadgil's son Anant Gadgil, senior Congress leader Jayantrao Tilak's son Deepak Tilak, and former mayor of Pune, Vandana Chavan.

Joshi will take on former MP Vitthal Tupe, who has been fielded by Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pradeep Rawat.
