End Oct PG exam

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Aug 24: A new proposal from M S University's Board of Studies has sought scrapping of the October examinations in Post Graduate courses. The proposal was put forward at a recent meeting of the board.

University sources said the Board found it economically unviable to hold examinations for PG students as only a handful appear, despite the administration's elaborate arrangements. ATKT examinations are useful only at the undergraduate level where the number of students is large, they argued.

The Board has suggested that ATKT system should also be done away with for such Post Graduate courses. However, the proposal is expected to enrage students, who will see it as a lost opportunity to clear their papers. The ATKT system allows them two attempts -- once in October and, then, in March, along with their Second Year examinations.

In fact, when the proposal was mooted first it was withdrawn following protests from students. The Post Graduate students had run it down as "discriminatory." Undergraduate students who are allowed to keep term can clear the subjects over two years.
