PSIEC staff protest govt move on funds
The Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation Staff Association today staged a rally in front of Udyog Bhawan. They were protesting the government move to procure funds from the corporation. President of the association, G.S. Oberoi, said that the state government would be procuring funds to the tune of Rs 20 crore from the corporation. He said: "The move would affect the very existence of the corporation. With the diversion of the funds, the existence of the PSIEC shall be jeopardised and the fate of as many as 2,000 employees would be at a risk."Seminar by FCI
A three-day seminar on quality control matters is being organised at the Ambedkar Bhawan in Sector 37 by Zonal Training Institute of FCI, New Delhi. The seminar started yesterday with D.P. Reddy, Senior Regional Manager, FCI, Punjab, inaugurating it.
Workshop held
The Punjab Environment Society organised a workshop here on environmental problems of the state. It was decided to set up panels on water pollution, town and country planning, landscaping and afforestation. It was decided to publish a quarterly bulletin on environment, besides taking up other issues. Secretary General of Earth Care Institute Dr G.S. Bachan stressed on the need to restore the West Bein Nadi.
In his inaugural speech, Reddy laid stress on the role of FCI in quality purchase of foodgrains particularly paddy and its customary milling which for a long time has been posing serious problems during the last two years.
Dr S.S. Garewal, Joint Manager, FCI, Punjab region, also spoke on the importance of specifications and also application of quality management while making purchase in ensuing kharif season and adopt all preventive measures keeping in view the past experience.
Others who were present included C.K. Bareja, Principal Zonal Training Institute FCI.
