Uddhav's remark on next CM irks Sainiks

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mumbai, Aug 24: A section of the cabinet members as well as a senior Sena functionary have expressed shock and surprise over Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray's statement on selection of new Chief Minister if the alliance returns to power.

Reacting to BJP's slogan on Gopinath Munde, Aaj Ka DCM (Deputy Chief Minister, Kal Ka CM (Chief Minister),'' Uddhav had remarked that the slogan is good since it clearly indicates that the Sena-BJP alliance will retain power in Maharashtra.

``The new Chief Minister will be decided by Sena supremo Bal Thackeray. If he nominates Munde, then one should not object to it, since Munde is also one of us,'' Uddhav said in a statement to Sena mouthpiece Saamna after his whirlwind tour of the Marathwada region.

When it was pointed out that his statement indicated that BJP will get more than the Shiv Sena, Uddhav said even if the Sena gets more seats, Thackeray can still nominate Munde as the Chief Minister, since his (Thackeray's) word is final.

According to a Senaleader, at a juncture, when the elections are just a fortnight away, it was unfortunate that senior party functionaries were creating confusion in the minds of the party workers at the grassroot level. ``Bal Thackeray himself had on several occasions stated that the Chief Minister will be elected on the basis of the formula according to which the CM will be from that party which gets more seats. Under such circumstances, there is no question of debate on the election of the new chief minister,'' the Sena leader added.

The Sena leader said it was an attempt to weaken the leadership of Chief Minister Narayan Rane.
