Cong, BJP suffer setback in Mohali

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SAS NAGAR, Aug 24: The local units of the BJP and Congress suffered a setback today when some 20 local leaders present and past senior office-bearers along with their supporters joined the All India Shiromani Akali Dal in the presence of the party president Gurcharan Singh Tohra.

Speaking on the occasion, G.S. Tohra catalogued "45 years of Congress misrule" and lambasted Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for "corruption". He said that Badal's promise to open cases against the corrupt persons in the previous government and award officials who uncover corruption has till date not been fulfilled.

The AISAD president claimed that the state government has mismanaged funds and siphoned off money to his son's constituency.

He said that most of the scams in the country took place during the Congress tenure and alleged that the CBI is hand in glove with the corrupt in the country. He criticised the BJP for conducting nuclear tests at Pokharan and leading to imposition of economic sanctions on the country.

Tohra praised former prime minister I.K. Gujral for his contribution towards the state and said that regional parties are best suited to form a government at the Centre. The AISAD chief declared that his party would support any party or front which is not supporting the SAD-BJP combine and the Congress.

Minorities front to support SAD
Minorities and Dalit Front, Punjab, has pledged their support in favour of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate contesting from Roopnagar (reserved), Satwinder Kaur Dhaliwal, here today.

The president of the Punjab unit of the front, Dharam Singh Saini, said that they visited several villages in Kharar segment of the constituency and have requested the people to vote for the SAD-BJP alliance. He claimed that only the SAD-BJP alliance can provide a stable government at the Centre.
