Usha adds two more gold as India finish in sixth position

NEW DELHI, Aug 24: The domination of Chinese Taipei was complete as they emerged the overall champions of the Nutrine Asia-Pacific Swimming and Diving Championships at the Talkatora Pool today. But the surprise package of the meet on the concluding day was that Thailand edged out emerging major power Hong Kong to the third spot in the overall tally.

Lin Chi Chan, with a haul of eight gold, claimed the top position in the women's section while India's M Usha finished behind her for a tally of 3-2-1. The men's title was taken by Fong Lik Sun of Hong Kong who captured four gold and a silver while Huang Chih Yung of Taipei came second with three individual gold medals.

India finished the day with 11 medals in swimming, including the two gold by Usha in 200m butterfly (2:38.43) and 200m breast stroke (3:06.02), and three in diving for an overall position of sixth to finish the meet with a total haul of four gold, 18 silver and 26 bronze medals.

SAF team: The Swimming Federation of India (SFI) todayannounced a list of 21 probables, including eight women, for the South Asian Federation (SAF) Games, beginning in Kathmandu from September 25.

The camp will be held at the SAI, South Centre in Bangalore from September 1-18 and will be shifted to Delhi till the team leaves for the Nepal Games, according to SFI secretary Virendra Nanavati.
