Hari, Soman join Chanda on top

MUMBAI, Aug 24: P Harikrishna (Hyderabad) and Maharashtra's Sacchidanand Soman caught up with overnight leader Chanda by winning their games. Chanda opted for a draw today and the three lead jointly with six points from seven rounds in the 37th National B chess championship being played at the Andheri Sports Complex.

On the joint second spot are 14 players with 5.5 points. They are Konguvel, Murugan, PK Sharma, V Koshy, Kashelkar, TS Ravi, H Sharma, SS Ganguly, Kidambi, Shriram Jha, Swati Ghate, Imocha, Gurpreet Pal and top seed Ramesh.

Among the women competitors, Swati Ghate outplayed Jayant Gokhale in 37 moves to finish with 5.5 points. S Vijaylakshmi defeated Prathamesh Mokal in a long-fought battle lasting over 100 moves to take her tally to five points. Nisha Mohota (4) played against the other Gokhale and agreed for a draw in 33 moves, while Anupama Gokhale (4) defeated Kalayan Mukherjee to claim her full points.
