Varinder Kumar, supporters join BJP
Patiala:
Bharatiya Janata Party state unit president Daya Singh Sodhi has inducted Varinder Kumar Wakil of Lehragagga into the party's fold along with his supporters. This was stated here yesterday by Kanwaljit Singh, general secretary Shiromani Akali Dal and Finance Minister. The Minister said this was confirmed to him by Sodhi on telephone and later Varinder Kumar Wakil also organised a election-related meeting at Lehragagga in which he exhorted the people vote in favour of SAD-BJP-BSM candidate Surjit Singh Rakhra for the Patiala Lok Sabha constituency.

33 bodies support Parneet Kaur
Patiala:
A total of 33 organisations, including Grain Dealers' Association, INTUC and the Palledar Union, have extended their support to the Congress candidate Parneet Kaur for Patiala Lok Sabha seat. This assurance was given during a election meeting organised at New Grain Market at Rajpura on Tuesday. Parneet Kaur thanked them for supporting her. In a press release, the party claimed that a large number of Bahujan Samaj Party supporters, including Mangat Singh Barawa, Nirmal Singh Tesimbli, Pritam Singh Hamaionpur, Sanga Singh Jandole had joined the party.

Liquor banned in Patiala during polls
Patiala:
Keeping in view the LS elections in Patiala on September 5 and counting of otes on September 6, District Magistrate Jasbir Singh Bir, using his power under Section 54 of Punjab Excise Act, 1914, has banned serving of liquor under prohibitory orders from September 4 to 6 in the entire constituency. In an order, he said all liquor shops will observe a complete close down from Sept 3 to 6. Storage of liquor was also banned from Sept 4 to 6.

Chowkidars' union to back SAD-BJP
Patiala:
The Rural Chowkidar Union has decided to extend its support to Surjit Singh Rakhra and Sukhbir Singh Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal, Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Morcha alliance's candidates in the state during the elections in the state. In a statement issued here today, the election office of SAD claimed that a decision to this effect had been taken at a meeting of the union, held at Nabha.
