Pravasi Manch calls for better reservation facility for trains to Mumbai

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Aug 26: The Pune Pravasi-Paryatak Manch has urged the railway authorities to continue issuing reservations for Mumbai at the main reservation office of the Pune railway station and also make available reservations for Mumbai at the general reservation counters as well as special counters.

In a memorandum submitted to Divisional Railway Manager, Manch president Krishnakant Kudale stated that although the Railway administration had provided additional reservation counters at the place adjacent to platform number one of Pune station, the new facility was made available only to those passengers who wanted to reserve their accommodation for Mumbai and back. At the same time the Railway administration had stopped issuing reservation tickets at the computerised reservation office on the first floor. Passengers who wanted reservations to Mumbai as well as some other stations, had to stand in two queues, one on the first floor of the reservation and secondly on the ground floor, with the procedure causing great inconvenience to passengers, he said.

Kudale pointed out that although the Railway has opened reservation offices at different parts of the city such as Deccan Gymkhana, Swargate and Ravivar Peth, tickets were available only at one or two counters although six to seven counters were available. No separate inquiry counters were available as a result of which such passengers were required to stand in the reservation queues for inquiries.

The computerised counters for cancellation of reserved tickets were not open after 2 pm on Sundays and after 8 pm on other days. Moreover, if reservation tickets were cancelled at the computerised reservation counter, the Railways gave a ticket with particulars of railway fare, cancellation charges enabling passengers to know all the details. Such ticket receipts were not issued at the manually operated counters, he said, and suggested that one computerised counter should be kept open 24 hours to enable passengers to get reservation tickets cancelled and obtain refund of the same.
