Miffed KCB members forced to eat humble pie
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Aug 26: Miffed at being totally sidelined by the Congress when it comes to getting a ticket to the Bopodi Assembly constituency, the elected members of the Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB) decided it was high time to ensure that their voices were heard by the party high command. Having taken on board president Brig. Mrinal Suman and former cantonment executive officer, the veteran members believed this would be quite an easy task only to find their wings clipped by their very own benefactor, Suresh Kalmadi.KCB vice-president Baliram Sawant, Suresh Kamble and William Smith, demanded a ticket for the KCB members from Bopodi. Upset to find former PMC mayor Chandrakant Chajjed was given the the ticket, the trio dashed off a fax to Sonia Gandhi, president of the Congress party, protesting against the ``step-motherly'' treatment meted out to KCB members by the party and even threatened to walk out of the party. These members were loyal to Suresh Kalmadi and he is believed to have summoned and taken them to task. The result - the three members were seen accompanying Chandrakant Chajjed to file his nomination papers. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
