Internet kiosks to make Delhi cyber-savvy

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, AUG 27: Working towards the goal of making Delhi a cyber-city, the State government is planning to set up internet kiosks to enable Delhiites get broad-based access to the internet to share their problems and suggestions with concerned government departments.

According to sources, the Delhi government intends to give licenses to some operators for this purpose is planning to rope in cable operators as ``franchise'' service providers of the internet in the city.

The operators would provide residents with a box costing around Rs 2,000, besides which the subscribers would have to pay about Rs 500 for 100 hours as cost of uplinking to the web.

However, the plan to make Delhi cyber-savvy is still in the research and development stage and it would be nearly three months before it is implemented.

Research is also being conducted for creating a facility enabling on-line filling in of forms and tenders. A back up is being set up for the purpose, sources said.

Besides this, efforts are also beingmade to create a system with the help of which customers would be able to pay Delhi Vidyut Board bills through the net.
