S.S. Gobindgarh, two others injured in car accident
Ambala: Haryana Shiromani Akali dal (Badal) president Sukhdev Singh Gobindgarh and two others were seriously injured when the car in which they were travelling was involved in an accident with a Maruti Zen at the railway fly-over on Ambala-Hisar Road, here today. Sukhdev and the other two were admitted to a private nursing home where they were stated to be out of danger. The other two injured were identified as Raghubir Singh and Rakesh Kumar.Interviews today as scheduled
Patiala: The interviews and snap tests fixed for September 3 by Punjabi University on the university campus for MBA and MCA courses at Guru Kashi campus in Talwandi Sabo, at Regional Centre in Bathinda for MA English/Punjabi and at Nawan Sher Khan Institute of Advanced Studies in Malerkotla for MA (Persian) and certificate course in Urdu/Arabic/Persian will be held as per the schedule advertised earlier. However, as per the decision of the Punjab government, the offices of Punjabi University and its centres at Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda, Malerkotla, Jaito and Mohali shall remain closed on September 3 on account of Janamashtami, according to a press release.
No liquor during polls in Roopnagar
Kharar: The District Administration has declared September 3 to 5 and October 5 to 7 as dry days in the entire Roopnagar district. District Magistrate Kulbir Singh Sidhu said besides the closure of liquor shops, no restaurants, clubs or hotels would be allowed to sell or serve liquor on the said dates. Also, storage of liquor by individuals shall not be allowed to exceed the limit prescribed under the current excise policy during dry days and necessary checks would be carried out by the excise department.
Scooterist killed, woman hurt in mishaps
Kharar: A scooterist was killed on the spot and a woman injured in two different road mishaps here. According to police sources, Soni Pal Singh was killed when a speeding Maruti car (PB-11-E-1374), on its way Kharar, hit the scooter (PB-12-B-0178) he was riding, on Kharar-Kurali highway near here last night. The police have registered a case under Sections 279/427/304-A of the Indian Penal Code against the car driver. In another road mishap on Kharar-Morinda highway, Ranjit Kaur, a pregnant woman, resident of Rurki village, about 5 km from here, sustained serious injuries when a speeding Maruti car (Pb-65-A-0692) hit her while she was standing on the roadside.
Congress reiterates stand on stability
Parwanoo: MLA and local Congress leader Raghu Raj has called upon the people to vote for the Congress as ``only it can provide a stable government in the country.'' Talking to mediapersons here yesterday, he said the Congress had always given a stable government and the country had made tremendous progress during the Congress tenure. On the contrary, he said, the opposition parties could not provide a single stable govt and their internal and ideological differences lead to the fall of their governments, resulting in mid term polls in the country. He added that the Congress would win on all the four seats in Himachal Pradesh in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
