CHANDIGARH, Sept 2: The Wrestling Federation of India has selected an 11-member team, including officials, to participate in the SAF Games to be held in Nepal from September 25 to October 4. Twentyseven wrestlers attended the trials which were conducted at NIS, Patiala for selection of the freestyle squad. Besides the chief coach Randhir Singh of SAI, Karnal, federation president G S Mander, general secretary VM Dutta and treasurer P L Paul witnessed the trials.The Team: 54 kg: Kirpashankar (Railway Sports Control Board), 58 kg: Manoj Kumar (RSCB), 63 kg: Mukesh Kumar (Punjab), 69 kg: Sujit Mann (Chandigarh), 76 kg: Pawan Kumar (Punjab), 85 kg: Anuj Kumar (RSCB), 97 kg: Shamsher Singh (Pb) and 130 kg: Surender (Haryana).
Coaches: Randhir Singh (SAI Karnal), LB Yadav (SSCB) and Shiv Jattan (SSCB).
GHS-37 win
Government High School-37 beat Guru Nanak Public School-36, by one goal to nil in the under-14 football tournament for Shivalik Trophy at the Govt Model School in Sector 23. The match winner was scored by Kuldeep.
In another match Govt Model High School-38 scored 4-2 victory over Govt School-15.
Govt School-15, took the lead through Chander Mohan in the opening minutes of the game. But the lead was shortlived as four minutes later Maninder scored parity for the eventual winners.
In the second session, Maninder was again on the target to consolidate the lead (2-1). However, Sandeep made it 2-2 all for Govt School-15.
In the dying minutes of the game Vikram and Harpal scored one goal each for GMHS-38.
Shivalik Public School-41 beat St John's High School-26, 5-2, via tie-break. The teams played 1-1 in the regulation time. Bhupinder Singh, gagan Singh, Harsimran Singh, Pardeep Singh scored for SPS-41 while Praghav netted one for St John's School.
Tomorrow the matches will be played at 8.30 a.m.
Golf meet today
The third Aman Nat Memorial Golf Tournament for juniors and sub-juniors will be held at Chandigarh Golf Club on September 3 and 4, according to G S Kochhar, Chairman Media and Publicity, Chandigarh Golf Club. The tournament is the annual golf calendar of the club.
The tournament is being played in memory of Aman Nat, an outstanding sportsman who died even before he could attain the age of 16. Competitions will be held for juniors (under-18), sub-juniors (under-15) and sub-juniors (under-10).
Thirtythree entries have been received. Under-15 category has received 20 entries. Junior and sub-junior below 15 will tee off from the white marker while the sub-junior below 10 and girls will tee off from the red marker.
