CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: Janamashtmi, was celebrated with religious fervour and traditional gaiety in the city today. Devotees thronged the temples to pay their obeisance to Lord Krishna on his birthday.Jhankis depicting the life of the Lord were displayed in temples around the city where devotees offered prayers, and organised kirtans. In some temples, bhakta-mandals enacted scenes of Infant Krishna at play.
PANCHKULA: The Janamashtami celebrations in the town saw devotees thronging the lavishly decorated temples since early today morning. Temple decorations went up two days ago though the stream of visitors picked up since yesterday evening.
Midnight, the climax of the celebration and the hour Lord Krishna is said to have been born, saw worshippers crowding temples where pooja was carried out before elaborate jhoolas recalling the birth of Lord Krishna, to catch a glimpse of the lord in the hour of his birth.
Meanwhile, the Shemrock International School here celebrated Janamashtami with enthusiasm with students enacting the Lord's birth and childhood. Teachers spoke of the significance of Krishna's life and teachings and a pooja was conducted. The function, that included various competitions, concluded with a little Krishna, who was assisted by the school headmistress, breaking the matki containing sweets for the children.
