Youngsters Club retain trophy

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Sept 3: Jatinder Singh was the star performer for the Youngsters Club. His first half goal turned out to be a match winner against City Cops Football Club in the super league match of the Chandigarh State Senior league which concluded at the Sector 17 Football Stadium, here today. The win fetched Youngsters Club seven points and gave them the title also. The winners also became richer by Rs 5000. The runners-up were Chandigarh Football Club, who scored a solitary goal win over Audit Haryana in their match today and got Rs 3000.

In the match between Youngsters Club and City Cops, the former made repeated forays into the rival citadel which not only sent the defence-line in disarray but also paved the way for the match winner. Jatinder Singh caught the City Cops defenders on the wrong foot in the 18th minute of the first half and beat the goalie Mukesh, who made a good save in the 12th minute.

Down by a goal, City Cops on the counter-attack missed a chance to equalise when their forward Dharminder Singh failed to convert a close range shot.

In the second session, despite good moves Youngsters Club failed to consolidate their lead. On the other hand City Cops also missed a few scoring opportunities to reduce the margin.

In the second super league tie between Chandigarh Football Club and Audit Haryana, the teams played attacking football. Rakesh Sharma of Audit Haryana failed to convert in the opening minutes of the game. Had he scored, the outcome of the match would have been different.

After a barren first half, Vinod of Chdandigarh XI collected a stray ball at the center, in the later part of the second session and ran down the right flank and sent a power packed shot from top of the `D' into the goal which dazed the keeper Kulwinder Singh.

Winners Team: Youngsters Club: Navjot Singh, Sunil, Deepak Seth, Mohil Diddee, Jasbir, Sachin, Brijesh, Gurminder, Vishal, Viney Kanwar, Jatinder, Vinod Kanwar, Darpan Negi, Arvind Rattan, Anil Sani, Charanjeet and Piyush Sharma.
