School teacher attempts suicide

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, SEPT 4: A teacher tried to commit suicide this afternoon after he was dismissed from a reputed school at Powai on Friday.Senior Inspector L D Tonpe attached to Sakinaka Police Station, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, told The Indian Express that the teacher, R Venkatchalam, slit his throat with a two inch knife at the school premises after he was removed from the job.

Dejection probably drove him to commit suicide, Tonpe pointed out. Venkatchalam was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital at Ghatkopar, where doctors attending to him said he was out of danger.

The police said Venkatchalam, a teacher with Bombay Scottish School located at Raheja Vihar Complex in Powai, was removed from his job for non-performance. Besides this, there were numerous complaints against him by parents in recent weeks, the police further added.

Venkatchalam has been charged under Section 506 Part II of the Indian Penal Code after he threatened Bombay Scottish School principal Mark Davis with direconsequences. He even threw the office computer on the floor after receiving the dismissal order, sources revealed.
