PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, SEPT 16: A senior official of the external affairs ministry is leaving for Paris tonight to probe the alleged maltreatment of a maid of an Indian diplomat posted there.

Additional secretary (administration) Pravin Goel is going to the French capital to ascertain facts relating to the charges of torture and ill-treatment of the 19-year-old maid Lalita Oraon, hailing from Ranchi in Bihar by her employer.

``Government is investigating the matter to ascertain all the facts. We are in touch with the French Government through the Indian embassy in Paris and we are cooperating closely with them to ascertain the facts,'' an external affairs spokesman told reporters here.
