PCMC urged to stop bullock-cart race

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Sept 16: The Sarvajeev Mangal Pratisthan, an organisation working for creating awareness against cruelty to animals, has made an appeal to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) not to hold the bullock-cart races as part of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Ganesh festival this year.

The Prathisthan will be holding demonstrations at Bhosari on September 18 and 19, when the bullock-cart races are planned to be held in the `Bhosari village fair'.

Prathisthan president, Dr Kalyan Gangwal, in a letter to Pimpri-Chincwhad Mayor Madhukar Pawle, said that bullock-cart race is an act of cruelty as the animals are tortured and receive serious injuries. In case the race could not be stopped as already announced, Gangwal has asked the organisers to ensure that the bullocks are not subjected to any kind of cruelty in the race.
