Rajput stars in Veterans' win

NEW DELHI, September 16: Lalchand Rajput's all-round performance (53 off 65 balls and 3 for 35) helped India Veterans beat their counterparts from Sri Lanka by 16 runs in the first match of the series at Karnail Singh Stadium here today.

Put in to bat, the hosts made 204 for eight in the stipulated 45 oves. Ashok Malhotra (44) and Gursharan Singh (24) were the other main scorers. Don Anurasii captured four wickets for 32 runs.

In reply, the Sri Lankan team was dismissed for 188 in 42.1 overs with opener G De Silva (52) being the top-scorer. Hirwani and Chetan Sharma claimed two wickets apiece.

India: 204 for 8 in 45 overs (Lalchand Rajput 53, Ashok Malhotra 44, Gursharan Singh 24, Don Anurasiri 4 for 32, S De Silva 2 for 34).
Sri Lanka: 188 all out in 42.1 overs (G De Silva 52, D'Priya 30, W Waragoda 31, Lalchand Rajput 3 for 35, Hirwani 2 for 35, Chetan Sharma 2 for 15).
