94 romeos fall in police net

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, SEPT 20: As part of the anti-eve teasing drive during the Ganpati Festival, the police have arrested nearly 100 persons since festivities kicked off on Monday. Areas under the jurisdiction of Faraskhana and Vishrambaug police stations have recorded the maximum cases as they attract the largest crowds during this period.

According to assistant commissioner of police (ACP) P N Ingle, those arrested are mostly from the suburbs. ``Most are from Hadapsar, Pimpri and Chinchwad areas. Most of these offenders are outsiders living in the industrial belt.'' Vishrambaug police station has made 18 arrests, Faraskhana has 17 cases while Cantonment police station has four cases and Khadak two making it a total of 94 cases.

According to ACP Ingle, this year, the police have deployed NCC cadets and citizens as part of the drive against eve-teasing. ``We already have six mobile squads headed by a woman police sub inspector moving around congested areas to take action against eve-teasers and they are being assisted by a large force of plain clothes policemen,'' ACP Ingle said.
