CID to inquire into tribal activist's death

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, SEPT 24: The probe into the death of a Nomadic and De-Notified Tribes Vikas Parishad activist Duryodhan Kale has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department sleuths.

Kale was a security guard at the technical high school of the Patas Cooperative Sugar Factory in Pune district. His body was found at Nimgaon Khalu village on August 30. In a complaint lodged with police, Kale's wife, Sangita, had named Shatrughna Bhosale and four others as her husband's killers. None of the accused were traced till late Thursday evening, it was stated.

The mystery in Kale's death has deepened with the investigation getting nowhere over whether Kale was killed in an encounter with the Mumbai police or whether his death was the result of previous enmity, as alleged by his wife.

Pointing out inconsistencies in information on Kale's death, Parishad organising secretary Girish Prabhune has demanded an impartial probe into the circumstances leading to Kale's death.

The Shrigonde police have registeredtwo separate cases in this connection.

Meanwhile, a police sub-inspector attached to Dharavi police station in Mumbai, Subhash Gokhale, lodged a complaint with Shrigonde police that he and a police squad accompanying him was attacked by a mob at Nimgaon Khalu at around 1.30 pm on August 29.
