SAS NAGAR, Sept 24: On receiving a call around 1.30 pm, the township fire brigade service despatched a fire-tender to Khumbra village. At the Khumbra light point, it met with an accident with a mini truck and overturned.According to sources, the fire-tender was coming from the sector 70-Phase VII side and was hit by a Tata-407 truck coming from Chandigarh. Five persons were injured, including the driver, Kulwinder Singh and two firemen Amar Singh, Pal Singh. Besides, the mini-truck driver Kala Singh and one Parminder Singh, the injured were rushed to Civil Hospital, Phase VI and the fire brigade personnel were discharged after first-aid.
When Newsline reached the spot, the fire-tender was lying overturned and the front portion of the truck had been completely smashed. The oil was lying on the spot, which had been covered by sand. The police was diverting traffic.Police sources said the tender had jumped the red light and further investigations were on.
