Teenager killed in PMT hit-and-run mishap
A 15-year-old student of a city-based night school was killed on the spot when a Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) bus dashed against his bicycle and sped away near Sane Guruji High School on Sinhagad road on Tuesday evening.

Ganesh Subhash Shetty (15) of Pune Municipal Corporation Staff Quarters in Rajendra Nagar was going to attend classes of 8th standard at Poona Night School at Saraswati Mandir High School when the mishap took place. Shetty's friend Samir Shantaram Bhalekar (17) of Rajendra Nagar had a narrow escape.

Shetty and Bhalekar were cycling toward Parvati overbridge from Dandekar Pul side when the PMT bus which was heading in the same direction hit Shetty's cycle.

The bus driver sped away while Shetty lay still in a pool of blood. He was shifted to a nearby hospital by Bhalekar and some passers by. Shetty was proclaimed dead on arrival at the hospital, police said.

Later, Bhalekar lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at Dattawadi police chowkey accusing the unidentified bus driver of rash driving and causing Shetty's death. The identity of the bus driver could not be ascertained till late in the evening.Mutha elected PSE president
P C Mutha, an active broker, was elected president of the Pune Stock Exchange (PSE) for the year 1999-2000 recently. Ashok Oswal and Kirit Shah were elected vice president and treasurer of the Council of Management respectively.

Mutha has held the membership of the PSE for the last eight years. For the last two years, he has also worked as a director on the Council of Management.

NDA exams postponed
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has postponed the National Defence Academy examination to October 10.

The examination, originally scheduled on October 3, has been postponed due to the clash of date of examination with the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections.
