Payment to 17 travel agencies withheld

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 12: The District Election branch and the Regional Transport Office will temporarily withhold payment to 17 travel agencies for the vehicles hired during the recent Lok Sabha elections as the private transport operators owe around Rs 20 lakh as tax to the RTO. The amount was calculated during a coordination process between the two government agencies.

Deputy election officer R A Chauhan and RTO's D C Pandya said the decision was based on mandotary rules during elections in the country. The rule states that all payments to caterers of different services should be made after verification of their dues from different government departments.
