Two dead, 9 injured as tempo-truck collide

PUNE, Oct 12: Two persons lost their lives while nine were grievously injured when a truck collided head-on with a tempo at Uruli Devachi village, about 30 km from here on Pune-Solapur Road, in the week hours of Monday morning.

The identities of the dead were ascertained as the tempo driver Yakub Babasahab Shaikh (30) from Javle village in Osmanabad district in Marathwada region and Bibhishan Navnath More (40) from Barshi town in Solapur district.

Among the injured were tempo owner Yakub Mehboob Shaikh (48), his wife Abida (45), son Anwar (19), Ramesh Gorakh Kurkute (28), Pandit Shivram Tambe (50), Bibhishan More's wife Kusum (35), Sultan Rehman Pangarkar (26), truck driver Rahimkhan Murtuzakhan Pishari (40) and truck cleaner Sharnappa Bheemrao Kamble (25).

Critically injured Kusum More and Rahimkhan Pishari have been admitted to the Sassoon Hospital in Pune. The other injured are undergoing treatment at various private clinics in Loni Kalbhor and Pune, police said.

According to the police, Yakub Mehboob Shaikh and Sultan Rehman Pangarkar who hail from Shikharde village in Barshi taluka of Solapur district deal in vegetables.

The Shaikh family was coming to Pune to make purchases for the marriage of Anwar, scheduled for next month, when the mishap took place. Bibhishan More, Kusum More, Pandit Tambe and Ramesh Kurkute had hitched a hike in Shaikh's tempo from Barshi, police said.
