State govt okays civic body plan
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has received the State Government's approval for constructing houses on 67,107 sq mts ULC land in Gotri, Danteshwar, Manjalpur and other areas for the economically backward. According to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, around 1,64,000 such houses will be constructed all over the State.

SSG entrance
SSG Hospital authorities have decided to close the Kirti Mandir entrance to the hospital from October 19 to restrict the entry of animals and ease traffic near the gate. They have also appealed to people to stop bringing gutka and paan masala inside the hospital and maintain hygiene inside the hospital. They have prohibited spitting in the hospital premises.

Bail plea
A city court will hear the bail plea of Vallabh Shah, accused in the murder of city-based businessman Baghwandas Meghwani, on Thursday. Shah had surrendered before the Detection of Crime Branch a fortnight ago and has since been lodged in the Baroda Central Jail. His anticipatory bail plea had been rejected earlier.

DSO raids
The District Supply Officials, on Wednesday, seized petrol and diesel worth Rs 18,000 from JJ & Company petrol pump, Dabhoi, on charges of fuel adulteration and improper records of stocks and sales. Kerosene worth Rs 13,000 was also seized from Ramanbhai Brothers Kerosene Depot, Dabhoi for similar reasons.

Ban order
In a bid to maintain law and order, the district magistrate has banned processions in rural Vadodara till October 20. Those calling meetings or gathering in a group of four or more are liable to be punished under section 37 (3) of the Bombay Police Act.

Army help
Financial assistance for widows of army personnel and armymen living under poor economic conditions has been increased to Rs 1,000, according to the District Army Welfare and Rehabilitation Officer.
