AHMEDABAD, Oct 13: One person was seriously injured and about Rs 7 lakhs stolen from angadias on Wednesday in two separate daylight loots in the city.In one of the incidents at Panchkuva, an unidentified person stabbed an angadia and robbed him of Rs 1.5 lakhs. Employees at the angadia's office, however, said the injured was carrying about Rs 3.04 lakhs.
In the second incident in Bapunagar, Rs 6.1 lakhs was allegedly looted from an angadia employed with the firm of Rajeshkumar Shantilal. Police and forensic experts, however, are still verifying the authenticity of the claim.
Somabhai Kashiram Patel, 42, an employee of Angadia Babulal Kantilal, was carrying cash to be handed over to traders in the area. He was passing near English Cinema at around 10.30 am when an unidentified man, about 25 to 30 years old, stabbed him thrice with a Rampuri knife and escaped with the booty. Somabhai has been admitted to V S Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable.
Residents of the area said they did not realise what was happening till they saw the assailant fleeing and Somabhai slumping to the ground. Incidentally, this is the second case in six months where an angadia from the same firm has been looted. ``Six months ago, Rs 4 lakhs were looted from one of our men,'' said an employee of the firm. The thieves have since been arrested and the case is in court now.
This is also the second incident in the area of an angadia being looted. According to a shopkeeper in the area, an angadia was looted of Rs 1.9 lakhs two months back.
In Bapunagar, two persons allegedly approached the firm of Rajeshkumar Shantilal in shop no. 106 and asked the complainant Satishbhai alias Ratilal Mohanlal Patel to accept Rs 1,530 to be sent to Surat. As soon as Satishbhai turned around to get change after giving them a receipt, he lost consciousness, only to wake up after one hour and fifteen minutes. During the time he remained unconscious, the duo decamped with the cash, Satishbhai has stated.
Police sources, however, said the complainant's version has raised some questions. ``Forensic Science Laboratory experts haveinspected the area, but they say no chemical can make a man unconscious within moments,'' a source said.
