According to police, the accused Ramesh's mother Waliaben was not on good terms with his wife Ramila and allegedly picked up fights with her often. On the fateful day, however, Ramila quarrelled with her mother-in-law. A deeply offended Ramesh killed Ramila by strangulating her. He was assisted in the crime by his mother, according to the police.

Ramesh then threw his wife's body into an unused village well. He then tried to convert the incident into a case of suicide, and threw his young daughter Gita also into the well. The matter was, however, reported to the police by some villagers who were aware of the incident. Police recovered the bodies of the mother and daughter from the well and got the post-mortem done at the civil hospital in Dahod. The post-mortem report said Ramila was strangulated before being dumped into the well.

A case under Section 302 IPC has been registered against Ramesh and his mother Waliaben.
