EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Oct 17: The most awaited feature of the annual Navratri Mahotsav has always been the celebration of garba at the ONGC Colony, Vadodara. ONGC has not just imbibed the garba culture of Gujarat but has also taken measures to increase employee involvement -- ever since the first performance was put up, way back in 1965. ONGC Employees Welfare Committee has geared up to hold this dance extravaganza. The garba troupe "Alap Kala Vrund" will perform at this year's festival. N Lal, Executive Director, ONGC, Western Region and K G Gupta, GGM (P&A) offered aarti to goddess Ambaji to unveil the programme.

The highlight of this year's Navratri festival was the presence of B C Bora, CMD, ONGC, Jauharilal, Director (Personnel) and I N Chatterjee, Director (Finance). Other city dignitaries who enjoyed the colony's Navratri included Collector Anil Mukim; Air Commodre P P Rajkumar, Chief Vigilance Officer Sohansingh; Rakesh Babu, General Manager, Telephones and K C Jena, Divisional Railway Manager, Western Railway. The presence of such high-profile doubled enthusiasm of the crowd. The visiting dignitaries performed puja and witnessed the enthusiastic dancers swaying to the melodious rhythm of garba.

Durgotsav celebrated: Durgostav '99 has started with great zeal and devotion near ONGC Colony, Vadodara. I N Chatterjee, Director (Finance) inaugurated the programme. B C Bora, CMD and Director (Personnel), Jauharilal performed Sandhya Aarti at the puja venue.

A song and oratory programme invoking goddess Durga titled "Agamani" was performed on the occasion. The audience was also treated to a rendition of folk songs depicting the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal in the evening.

Guru Ramdas Birth Anniversary observed: In his tricentenary year of Khalsa Panth, keeping up the tradition of the past twenty seven years, the Sangat of ONGC with cooperation of Samooh Sangat of Vadodara celebrated the birth anniversary (Prakash Utsav) of Guru Ram Dasji at the colony premises.
