Indian market `most lucrative' for consumer products

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Oct 17: Sony India is targeting the Indian market as it is identified as the most lucrative for consumer products. The statement was made by Hiromi Matsumoto, Managing Director of Sony India who was here to inaugurate Sony's branch office in the city.

About product popularity, Matsumoto said the company has one wide policy for quality maintenance and it is applicable for their products all over the world. "Indian customer is no different from those of the rest of the world. But our feedback from the market is that the Indian customer is now willing to spend more; he wants value for his money. He no longer wants cheap and short term products," observed Matsumoto.

In terms of quality, the Managing Director stressed on the need to maintain a particular standard in addition to lowering the cost of production so that the products are within easy reach of the masses. "Efforts are being made to work out modalities for lowering of prices. But we are very clear about one thing, we do not believe in compromising on our quality for more buyers," he said.

Speaking about the low profile maintained by the company vis a vis the advertising strategies, Matsumoto said: "We prefer putting our energy and resources on improving the product quality instead of capturing the market with huge advertisements. The latest step we have taken is that of deciding to open showrooms in the northern region so that people have more access to the products."
