MSRTC all geared up to beat rivals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Oct 17: The Maharashtra State Transport Corporation (MSRTC) will soon start using wireless sets for effective communication between various bus termini, announced MSRTC regional manager N B Borade here today.

Addressing a press conference, Borade said the MSRTC would soon erect transmission towers at Sinhagad in Pune, Ajinkyatara in Satara, Panhala fort in Kolhapur district besides the already existing towers at Rajmachi and Khambataki Ghat.

He said the MSRTC would be able to provide information about the buses on route at various termini with the wireless system.

The MSRTC is also planning to adopt several other measures to overcome the competition with its rivals, mainly the private bus operators and the transporters operating illegally, Borade said.

Pune region of the MSRTC was planning to start special semi luxury bus service on Pune-Solapur, Pune-Kolhapur, Pune-Satara and Pune-Aurangabad routes at a frequency of one hour.

The number of ST bus trips on Solapur Akkalkot, Solapur-Barshi, Phalton-Baramati, Kolhapur-Hubli, Kolhapur-Ichalkaranji and Sangli-Ichalkaranji routes will also be increased.

The MSRTC was planning to pay encouragement allowance to its employees who make efforts to increase the load factor (the ratio of actual income and expected expenditure of the schedules), Borade said. MSRTC's income would increase by Rs 30 crore per annum if the load factor increases by one count, he added.

A plan was also afoot to launch the online reservation service for the MSRTC buses starting from Pune Railway Station, Shivajinagar and Swargate bus termini. Special online booking centers would be set up at five to six places in the city if the online reservation service at the three termini evokes good response, he said.
