Eves placed in tough group

NEW DELHI: India has been placed in a tough Group A which includes strong contenders North Korea and Chinese Taipei for the 12th Asian Women's Football Championships to be held in the Philippines next month. Besides the three, Malaysia and Vietnam are the other two teams.

Meetei champ

NEW DELHI: Heikam Ingoba Meetei of Manipur and Ringzen Angmo of Jammu and Kashmir won the 17th Rath Indian Open marathon in men's and women's categories respectively. The 20-year-old Meetei clocked 2:26:14 to bag Rs 50,000 while the 30-year-old Angmo timed 2:50:07, improving upon her SAF Games gold medal timing of 2:55:37.

Women's boxing

SHIMLA: Indian Amateur Boxing Federation president A K Mattoo said the first women's boxing championship will begin next year. The men's boxing team will be participating in the Asian Boxing Championship at Tashkent from October 23-30.
