Witchcraft, which has continued to claim several innocent lives, mostly of tribals in south Bihar, drew the attention of the state Legislative Council among others. The legislators raised the issue several times, forcing Council chairman Jabir Hussain to direct the government to initiate effective steps to prevent witch craft. The state Legislature passed the bill on April 26 and the Governor approved it on October 20.
