Suspend Joshi, says BJP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, OCT 25: The rank and file of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday demanded suspension of Additional Police Commissioner Geetha Johri and Fatehganj Police Inspector D N Mishra for what they termed the `misbehaviour' with BJP workers by the two police officers two days ago when a gambling den was attacked by local residents.

The delegation, led by former Mayors Bharati Vyas, Shabdsharan Brahmbhatt and Ratilal Desai, put up the demand for stern action against the police officers before Home Minister Haren Pandya in Gandhinagar on Monday. A memorandum demanding suspension of these two police officers was also presented.

According to BJP sources, the Minister has promised to initiate action. Sources added that the Minister lauded the efforts of the Bharatiya Janata Party councillors and workers who led the masses in raiding the den.

The delegation of around 50 people also included three councillors of ward number 12, Pradeep Joshi, N V Patel and Nilam Kodnani, who had participated in the attack.

The five-page memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel reportedly narrates the entire incident, including the alleged misbehaviour by Johri with Joshi. It ends with a demand for suspension.

Among the signatories are city Bharatiya Janata Party president K K Shah, party MP Jayaben Thakkar and Mayor Umakant Joshi.

A copy of the memorandum is also expected to be submitted to District Collector Anil Mukim on Tuesday.
