Noose tightens around Laloo

ARUN SRIVASTAVA
PATNA, OCT 25: Rebellion in the RJD against the proxy rule of Laloo Prasad has started taking a concrete shape. Sources close to Laloo's brother-in-law Sadhu Yadav say that nearly 60 legislators today held a meeting and extended their support to his stand. They authorised Sadhu Yadav to form his own party, in case he is removed from the RJD.

While Sadhu Yadav is in an unrelenting mood, ministers have also turned hostile to Laloo Prasad.

Senior ministers -- who have been the target of Sadhu Yadav's tirade -- nourish the impression that the attack against them had the overt patronage of Laloo. A senior minister said that none can dare raise his voice against Laloo.

However, close aides of Laloo are busy finding out whether Sadhu Yadav and the party's working president Ranjan Yadav are working on a united front. Sources close to Laloo say that the way Sadhu Yadav has been raising issues clearly manifests that Ranjan Yadav and Sadhu Yadav have joined hands. Both have been harping on issues like developmentand corruption. Ranjan Yadav has been highly critical of the functioning of the ministers.

Eight ministers today submitted a letter to Laloo, requesting him to take stringent action against Sadhu Yadav. A senior minister said: ``He has been literally working as the unconstitutional power centre.''

What has caused panic in RJD circles is the tone of the charges of Sadhu Yadav. Without mincing words, he said: ``The Government as well as the RJD have lost track. Laloo simply listens to his chamchas. Since he does not pay attention to the development works, the party was routed in the Lok Sabha election''.

Apprehensions are being expressed in the RJD circles that after October 28, Laloo may take action against the dissidents, particularly Sadhu Yadav.

Insiders feel that Laloo may opt to take action against some of the ministers too against whom Sadhu has raised his voice. In fact Laloo has been finding it difficult to tame ministers like Mahabir Prasad and Illiyas Hussain.

Mahabir Prasad has goneagainst Laloo's wishes in handling the doctor's practice issue. Iliyas who has been chargesheeted by the CBI in the Bitumen scam has been speaking against Laloo for quite sometime now.
