With cabinet expansion on cards, CM meets Sonia

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, OCT 25: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh tonight had a meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The meeting assumes significance as Deshmukh had announced yesterday that cabinet expansion and allocation of portfolios in his Congress-NCP coalition ministry would take place this week.

The CM also had separate discussions with AICC general secretary, Madhavrao Scindia and AICC treasurer, Ahmed Patel.

Deshmukh, who took over as CM last week also made courtesy calls on President K R Narayanan, Vice-President Krishan Kant and Home Minister L K Advani.

Deputy Chief Minister Chaggan Bhujbal accompanied Deshmukh during the courtesy calls.

Meanwhile, Bhujbal has stated that the Democratic Front government will ensure that the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission, that probed the 1992-93 riots in Mumbai, were properly implemented.

He told mediapersons that the government would not give in to any pressure regarding implementation of the recommendations of the SrikrishnaCommission and Gundewar Commission reports.
