Gary Stead to join Kiwis

WELLINGTON: Batsman Gary Stead will join the New Zealand touring side in India after Craig McMillan fractured a finger while fielding, New Zealand cricket said Monday.

McMillan fractured the first joint of his right-hand index finger during the second Test against India at Kanpur. ``The injury occurred late on the first day of play and x-rays confirmed a break the following day,'' NZ Cricket said. The team's physiotherapist Mark Harrison said a decision on McMillan's return to New Zealand would not be taken until tomorrow.

Mumbai varsity up

MARGAO: Mumbai University scored a facile 2-0 win over South Zone champions Kerala in group B match in the all-India Inter Zonal Inter University Football Championship match played at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda. Mumbai scored through Srikanth Naik (56th minute) and Abhishek (76th).

Telegraph win

GANGTOK: Riding on a golden goal, George Telegraph edged past Manipur XI 2-1 in the 21st all India Governor's Gold CupFootball Tournament. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time. For the winners Amar Ganguly scored a brace while the consolation goal for Manipur was struck by Aziz-ur-Rehman.

Das' black slam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Jayaprakash Das of Orissa achieved the first black slam in the 7th Federation Cup and 27th sub-junior and Inter State Carrom Championship. Jayaprakash beat PK Shameer of Kerala 25-0, 4-25, 25-0. His black slam came in the third and deciding game of the fourth board. Former international Sanjay Nagaonkar and R Arokyaraj won their first round men's singles matches easily.

State basketball

NAGPUR: The Maharashtra State Basketball Championship has attracted 22 teams in the men's and 14 in the women's sections. The five-day event would be played at Nutan Bharat Yuwaksangh and Dharampeth Krida Mandal courts.
