Inferno in illegal beer hall -- 54 die, 4 arrested

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE
INCHON (S KOREA), OCT 31: South Korean police today arrested four people in connection with a blaze in an illegal beer hall that left 54 people, mostly teenagers, dead and 71 injured.

The four, an electrician, two interior designers and a builder are suspected of flouting fire safety regulations during the renovation of a Karaoke lounge below the bar where most of the mainly teenage victims died in the major fire on Saturday.

Yesterday's disaster in the unlicenced drinking den was the worst of its kind in 25 years and dealt a fresh blow to South Korea's appalling building safety record, sparking a wave of public anger here.
