According to official sources, the transit sites will not be provided to those affected residents of Gwala colony who are not otherwise eligible under the 1996 scheme.

It may be recalled that over 300 houses in and around Gwala colony in Manimajra were demolished by the Administration's enforcement wing, to help clear the government land belonging to the Forest Department from all kinds of encumbrances on October 27, after some of the residents had lost their case in the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, a number of affected residents continue to stay at the same place, fighting out the chilly nights, after their illegal structures were razed. Most of them are squatting in the open, with some having put up tents.

There has been a demand to provide proper alternative sites to the residents whose houses were demolished without adequate notice to them.
