Ethiopia visit `satisfactory'

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Oct 31: Two city doctors, members of the 17-member team that toured Ethiopia on an Intercontinental Medicare Project recently, are back in the city. The 11-day tour concluded on October 15.

Dr P.S. Grewal and Dr P.S. Chari, were on a "humanitarian" project organised jointly by two Rotary districts in India and one district each in USA and Africa. Grewal said that he, along with two other Ophthalmic surgeons, performed 449 operations in Budhajira and Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. "Most of these were for intraocular lens implant surgeries, done to remove cataract to restore vision," he said.

Terming the experience as "satisfying", he said the people in those parts of the world are "really needy. The facility is almost nonexistent there. It is a place devoid of hygiene and has few medical facilities." Head of the Plastic Surgery department of PGI, P.S. Chari said he performed 27 operations.
