Indira Gandhi remembered

CHANDIGARH, Oct 31: Glowing tributes were paid to former prime minister Indira Gandhi as Congressmen and others remembered and paid homage to her on her martyrdom day, in separate functions organised here today.

At a function organised at the Congress Bhawan in Sector 35 here today morning, floral tributes were paid to the slain prime minister and her supreme sacrifice remembered. The Mahila Congress under the leadership of its local president Lalit Joshi Bhardwaj organised the function, which was attended by many prominent Congressmen, where local MP Pawan Kumar Bansal was the chief guest.

While Bansal highlighted her sacrifices and achievements, Lalit Joshi emphasised that the only homage to their departed leader was to follow her ideals and path.

Prominent among others who were present included acting president Kulbhushan Gupta, Harmohan Dhawan, Sham Lal Gupta, Surinder Bhatia, while a number of Congress women workers, including Pushpa Sharma, Salochana Ahuja, Sudesh Chaudhary, Rama Ghosh, Raj Rani and Indu Sharma were also present.

At another function, the principal, staff and students of Government Senior Secondary School, sector 19-D and Government High School, Sector 7, observed the day where children sang patriotic songs and raised slogans to promote unity and national integration.

At yet another function, the Chandigarh Territorial Seva Dal also oberved the day, where Mamraj Kaushal, Achhe Lal, Jagatram, Rupinder Singh and Rajraj Verma were present.
