Weiler Intl out of the red

PUNE, Nov 1: The Weiler International Electronics Pvt Ltd (WIE), the 100 per cent subsidiary of Digisound Electronic GmbH of Germany is out of the red.

This sick division of UB Engineering Ltd was acquired by Digisound in 1998, has made it first shipment to the European and has also registered sales of Rs 22 crore. It is also entering the contract manufacturing of electronic circuits for the consumer durable and automobile industry.

Founder of Digisound Rudolf Weiler believed that there would a great demand from the consumer durable segment for contract manufacturing since these products were going electronic.

WEI has completed a project for Tata Indica and plans to do two more projects for Telco besides washing machine manufacturers. It has invested Rs3 crore and plans to invest another Rs 7 crore in contract manufacturing of hi-end electronic circuits.

The new management has restructured WIE's business into three strategic business units -- thick film hybrid circuits, hi-rel and acoustic business. WIE regained a 40 p c market share in thick film hybrid circuits and is the only private sector company supplying critical electronic circuits for space applications. This year also marked its global debut into the acoustic business.

Weiler mentioned that the company aims to cross the Rs 50 crore turnover mark in three years and register exports worth Rs 20 crore.
