Calcutta: Top seed Bangladeshi IM Zia-ur-Rahman emerged the sole leader with 7.5 points after the 9th round of the Millenium International Open chess tournament. Rahman outplayed erstwhile joint leader DK Muralikrishnan in 38 moves.

Maharashtra in final
Chennai: Holders Tamil Nadu will meet Maharashtra in the final of the Central Revenue Sports Control Board second Inter-state volleyball tournament on Tuesday. In the semi-finals, Maharashtra beat Andhra Pradesh 22-25 17-25 25-20 28-26 15-11 while Tamil Nadu defeated Delhi 25-19 25-18 25-22.
