CHENNAI, NOV 3: The Indian Railways are working out a software to provide the reservation status/reservation enquiry and information on arrival and departure of trains on the Internet.Disclosing this to media persons, Railway Board Additional Member (Computers and Information System) V Kumaran said this would be an added service to the existing voice interactive reservation system on telephone numbers 1361, 1362 and 1363, in addition to the manual reservation enquiry of 132.
The railways are also working out a software to provide reserved tickets on the net through arrangement with one of the banks.
The modalities are being worked out. The railways are also providing booking facilities on the net to its General Sales Agents (GSAs) abroad to make rail bookings.
Asked if the railways are working on a communication system through the net between the stations and the engine drivers, he said the new locos being procured have the facility to get computerised information and it would be in place.
InDelhi, the railways have already introduced tele-bookings in arrangement with Standard Chartered Bank. Also, the touch screen facilities introduced recently will be introduced in more stations across the country.
