4 Falun Gong leaders face prosecution
BEIJING: Four Falun Gong leaders who led a protest by 183 people against the banning of the spiritual sect in China are to be prosecuted under a new law aimed at cracking down on "devil cults", State media reported on Wednesday. Song Yuesheng, Jiang Silong, Chen Yuan and Liang Yulin will be prosecuted in the southern Chinese city of Haikou, the China Women's News said. The prosecutions were approved by the Haikou People's Procuratorate on Monday, Just two days after the anti-cult legislation was passed. The four men are accused of defying a government ban by organising an illegal gathering on August 8 in a park in Haikou, Hainan.

Rare Sumatran tigers still hunted down for trade
PADANG, INDONESIA: AT least 14 rare Sumatran tigers have been slaughtered by poachers in the past three months, and the species faced extinction with in two years, Indonesian environmentalists warned on Wednesday. Only about 400 of the tigers remained and theywere being targeted by rampant hunters, said Rahmadi, head of the Indonesian Wildlife Forum (Wal hi) chapter in Padang, the capital of West Sumatra. At least 50 of the tigers are known to have been killed in the past decade, he told AFP, adding there was a growing black market demand for the skin and meat.

80,000 East Timorese still unaccounted for: Interfet
DILI (E TIMOR): THE head of the international force in East Timor (Interfet) Major General Peter Cosgrove on Wednesday said that at least 80,000 displaced East Timorese had yet to be accounted for. "There is a discrepancy, we feel, of about 80,000. Are these in the hills or just unlocated? We are not sure," Cosgrove told mediapersons here. He said about 720,000 East Timorese had been located versus a rough estimate of 800,000 believed to have been in the territory during the referendum
