VMC to return all seized larri-gallas

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 4: A day after larri-galla owners took out a massive rally in protest against alleged harassment by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), the civic body is reported to have decided to return the larri-gallas seized during the last few days. Former Mayor Dalsukh Prajapati told Express Newsline that the decision was taken late on Thursday evening following representation by Congress councillors and larri-galla owners.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel confirmed it and said while fines would be imposed on non-license holders, the ones having license would be returned their larri-gallas on condition that they maintain licence clauses.

At the Standing Committee meeting, the ruling BJP members also demanded that the larris should not be confiscated till Diwali.

Prajapati claimed the decision was taken at a meeting between him, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, Mayor Umakant Joshi and larri-galla association representatives. He added that the VMC has decided not to tow away larri-gallas till labh pancham.

According to Prajapati, the Congressmen represented that the VMC had no right to take away larri-gallas as it had failed to implement the hawking zone and non-hawking zone scheme in totality.

The Congressmen also said that the VMC had no right to punish the vendors without prior information.
