Arrest helps DCB solve four theft cases

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Nov 4: The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Thursday claimed to have solved four cases of chain-snatching in the city, after it arrested a 25-year-old youth, Nilesh Chandubhai Patel, from the Ajwa Road area on Wednesday night.

Giving details, DCB inspector P P Kanani said two women victims helped the police in arresting the accused by providing them his vehicle's registration number. While Patel had made an unsuccessful bid to snatch a chain from one of the woman's neck in Nizampura area on November 2, he succeeded in snatching a chain from the other victim's neck in Mehsana Nagar area the same day.

However, a difference arose when the first victim stated that the accused was riding a vehicle with the registration number GJ-6-N-286, and the other claimed that the chain-snatcher's vehicle bore the number GJ-6-NN-286.

But when both confirmed that the accused was riding a black motorcycle, DCB sleuths then immediately procured the name and addresses of owners of the vehicles with the two numbers. While the first turned out to be the registration number of a moped, the other one belonged to a black motorcycle. The police then arrested the motorcycle-owner.

As the owner was not available till late Wednesday evening, a police constable, in plainclothes, was deployed on the main road near his house. A police team, led by Kanani, then raided the house when the constable informed that the youth had come.
