Promotion of literature in braille stressed
An independent board for the creation and promotion of literature in braille, for the cultural development of the handicapped is the need of the hour, said Swagat Thorat, editor of Sparshgandha, at the release of its second diwali issue in braille script. Thorat also mentioned that textbooks beyond the SSC class are not available in braille for the 10 lakh blind in Maharashtra.

Brig Aiyer for Lucknow
After a two year tenure, Brig P S R Aiyer, commandant of the Military Hospital, Khadki, has been transferred to Lucknow. He will be posted as the Commander of Officers Training School in Lucknow. No fresh appointment however has been made in his place until now. Aiyer will be leaving for Lucknow on November 13.

Aiyer was commissioned into the Army Medical Corps Centre and School (AMC & S) on March 21, 1966. He has held various important appointments and was also the director general of Medical Services. Inauguration of ambulance n Pune Heart Brigade's second ambulance, to be operated from Sanjeevan Hospital, will be inaugurated on Friday at the hands of MP Pradeep Rawat.

The ambulance is equiped with a wireless set, medical equipment and medicines, and is donated by Arun and Deepak Kudale. The inauguration will take place at 9.30 am at Sanjeevan Hospital.

Ayurveda camp from Nov 11
The Ayurveda Research Institute (ARI) has organised a free camp on heart diseases, from November 11-18, between 9 am to 11 am, at the ARI premises, Karve Road. The Ayurvedic experts will offer free counselling, panchakarma, and ayurvedic treatments at concessional rates. For registration contact ARI at 341744.

Dr Ganesh is fellow of INSA
Dr K N Ganesh, head of the division of organic chemistry: Synthesis, in the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune, has been elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), Delhi, in recognition of his contributions in the field of chemical sciences.

Ranade awarded
Dr Vivek Ranade, a scientist in the industrial flow modelling group of the Homogenous Catalysis Division in the NCL, Pune, has been recently awarded the Swarnajayanti Fellowship instituted by the Government of India, to provide special assistance to selected young scientists.
